Where on the hand: On the groove of any line, or free-standing on any mount; also in the upper and lower middle palm.
What it looks like: A small round or oval depression or discolouration, 0.5–3 mm, sitting ON a line or free on a mount. It is in the skin, not a crossing of lines — hence colour is diagnostic. On a line it looks like a tiny puncture or bead interrupting the groove. Distinguish it from a mole, which is a raised pigmented nevus.
The acute, dated event. Findyourfate: “a distinct event or malady, sometimes chronic.” Palm Lines Co calls it “the most precise timing marker on the palm.” Psychic Library says dots can “represent significant and monumental events that have created crisis” and “may disappear when issues resolve.” Colour is the primary reading key — see the six colour-variant entries.
On each line
- **Life line** — each dot is a minor illness or acute health incident; a trauma or stress period. A cross plus a dot at the start = an accident in early life.
- **Head line** — head or brain illness; a specific traumatic thought or shock. A dot under Saturn that gradually enlarges into an island is the classical “deafness” progression. A deep colourless indentation: severe neuralgia lasting a year or more.
- **Heart line** — a single emotional wound. Benham: a health defect of the heart, severity by size — “tiny dots represent temporary disturbances.”
- **Fate line** — a specific career incident. Saint-Germain: a black dot marks “a critical turning point or event,” datable by position.
- **Sun line** — danger to reputation and social standing; a deep or black dot at the heart-line junction indicates danger of blindness.

- **Jupiter** — poverty and defamation; Saint-Germain: “ruined position and loss of fortune.”
- **Saturn** — victim of evil.
- **Sun / Apollo** — loss of respect and prestige; danger to reputation.
- **Mercury** — heavy business losses; business failure.
- **Mars** — injury from a fight; Saint-Germain: a wound from combat — if the mount is exaggerated, the subject inflicted it.
- **Moon / Luna** — brain disorders and muscular problems.
- **Venus** — venereal disease; “serious disease connected to love.”
- **Upper middle palm** — financial difficulty at puberty. **Lower middle palm** — consistently negative.
Where the dot is positive
- **White dots on the head line** — discoveries or inventions; the one clearly benefic dot.
- **White dot under Saturn** — career success.
- **White dot with heart-line bars under the Sun** — literary achievement.
- **White dot near Mercury** — success in practical scientific research.
- **Any dot, as a transient sign** — dots are the mark most explicitly described as temporary: they “may disappear when circumstances resolve,” and reddish dots “tend to be temporary” (Destiny Palmistry).
- **Any dot, repaired** — “squares effectively repair dot damage” (Benham).
Timing
- **A point, not a span** — the dot gives a single dated moment where an island gives a period.
- **The sharpest marker on the palm** — Palm Lines Co.
- **Progression** — a dot on the head line under Saturn that enlarges into an island is read as a condition beginning at the dot and worsening across the island's length.
Western reading: Saint-Germain supplies the colour system and its severe sub-cases; Benham supplies the size rule, the yellow dot, the square repair, and the intestinal reading on the health line.
Read with care: The dot's health claims are among the most health-adjacent in the corpus — the enlarging dot-into-island under Saturn as a “sure sign of serious deafness,” the black dot at the Sun–heart junction as “imminent danger of blindness,” the black spot on Venus as venereal disease.
