Where on the hand: On any mount, on the life, head, heart, Sun or health line, and on the first phalanx of the index finger.
What it looks like: A small complete closed ring, 2–6 mm in diameter, formed by one continuous curved line — genuinely round, not an oval. Concentric circles are two or more nested rings. Palm Lines Co warns that circles are rare and “imperfect circles may be distorted islands.”
The sharpest mount-versus-line split in the whole system. On a mount the circle augments the mount's power and is good — Findyourfate: “evil unless on a mount (augments power).” On a line it is “inescapable misfortune.” Benham gives it a specifically ocular reading: valuable on the life line, the Apollo mount, or the head line beneath Apollo, and indicating “eye sensitivities and vision delicacy, becoming more defined as eye problems worsen.”
On each line
- **Life line** — eye trouble. Saint-Germain: two circles = total blindness; one circle = blindness in one eye. Dale: a circle on the life line opposite the Moon mount = loss of eyesight.
- **Head line** — blindness. Circle plus cross on the liver line = blindness.
- **Heart line** — eye disease and weakness of the heart.
- **Sun / Apollo line** — a malformed circle with a poor Sun line: vision problems.
- **Health line** — accident.
- **Benham's exception** — he reads the circle as valuable (not evil) on the life line and on the head line beneath Apollo, as a marker of vision delicacy rather than a misfortune.
On each mount
- **Jupiter** — Saint-Germain: success (noted as very rare). Indian Palm Reading: memory of past lives. Palmistry-Astrology: “will make good progress in life.”
- **Saturn** — Saint-Germain: a favourable omen (very rare). Indian Palm Reading: weakness of the heart. Palmistry-Astrology: no special significance.
- **Sun / Apollo** — Saint-Germain: significant fame (very rare). Indian Palm Reading: prosperity. Palmistry-Astrology: “will gain fame, happiness and success.” The one placement where all traditions agree the circle is good.
- **Mercury** — Saint-Germain: violent death by poison. Indian Palm Reading: danger from poison. Palmistry-Astrology: “dishonest and crooked.”
- **Mars** — Saint-Germain: “very serious omen, often eye injury” (rare). Indian: eye injury. Palmistry-Astrology: “will get hurt in the eye.”
- **Moon / Luna** — Saint-Germain: death by drowning. Indian: drowning incident. Palmistry-Astrology: “indication of blindness.”
- **Venus** — Saint-Germain: chronic ill health. Indian: sexual weakness. Palmistry-Astrology: “prolonged illness.”
- **Upper middle palm** — distress and sorrow. **Lower middle palm** — “will be safe from hazards.”
- **Index finger, 1st phalanx** — good logical sense.
Where the circle is positive
- **Apollo / Sun mount** — fame, prosperity, happiness and success; every tradition agrees here.
- **Jupiter mount** — success, good progress in life; memory of past lives in the Indian reading.
- **Saturn mount** — a favourable omen in Saint-Germain (very rare).
- **Lower middle palm** — “will be safe from hazards.”
- **Index finger, first phalanx** — good logical sense.
- **Concentric circles (Dale, Indian classical)** — wealth via marriage on Jupiter; lands and legacies on Saturn; business success on Apollo; eloquence and profession on Mercury. Broken circles are “less powerful than concentric circles.”
- **Circular figures on Mercury or Moon** — conch shells and other round figures indicate a learned person.
Western reading: Saint-Germain supplies the mount table with its lethal Mercury and Moon readings and its rare favourable Jupiter, Saturn and Apollo circles. Benham dissents from the whole scheme by reading the circle as an ocular marker rather than a fortune sign.
Read with care: “Circle on Mercury = violent death by poison,” “circle on Moon = death by drowning,” and “two circles on the life line = total blindness” are pure Victorian melodrama. Note also that the Apollo mount is the one placement where all traditions agree the circle is good — a useful demonstration that the “circle = evil” generalisation is not even internally consistent.
