Where on the hand: The cushion at the base of the index finger (tarjani), bounded above by the crease at the finger's root, below by the origin of the head and life lines, radially by the web between thumb and index, and on the ulnar side by an imaginary line dropped from the cleft between index and middle finger. On the normalised palm grid its centre sits at roughly x 0.22, y 0.93.
What it looks like: A rounded pad filling the space under the first finger; its apex — the small tented convergence of skin ridges — normally sits directly beneath the centre of the index finger. Well developed it stands visibly proud when the palm is sighted edge-on at eye level.
Jupiter is the mount of ambition, leadership and self-respect: the drive to rise, to command, to be honoured. It governs religious and philosophical feeling, dignity, generosity and love of ceremony. Western reading: Benham treats Jupiter as producing a whole Jupiterian type — the born leader, physician and churchman — and makes the apex, not the bulge, the mount's true seat.
Read with care: The health associations (liver disease, diabetes, apoplexy, stroke) are traditional correspondences, not medical findings, and the sources disagree between the classical Western list and the Chinese-derived table. The cross on Jupiter is a genuine point of disagreement: fortunate in Western classical reading, negative in some Indian sources.
