Where on the hand: Directly beneath the middle finger (madhyama), between the finger crease above and the heart line below, flanked by Jupiter on the radial side and Apollo on the ulnar side. The fate line, when present, terminates here. Centre roughly x 0.45, y 0.95 on the normalised palm grid.
What it looks like: A pad under the second finger that in the classical ideal is level or only very slightly raised — the one mount that should NOT stand high. Yellowish colouring here is read as a distinct and adverse sign.
Saturn is the mount of sobriety, solitude, study and karma — the balance-wheel that restrains the excesses of the other mounts. It gives prudence, patience with long-horizon work, and a taste for research and for the earth's hidden things. Uniquely among the mounts, its excess is far more feared than its deficiency.
Well developed (level or very slightly raised — the ideal)

- **Toward Jupiter** — morbid pride; but Indian sources read this more kindly, as a respected position in society, admiration, dignity.
- **Toward the Sun / Apollo** — Benham: less morbidity, Saturn lightened by Apollo's brightness. Indian sources read it negatively: laziness, poverty, dependence, dullness, pessimism, business failure. A direct contradiction between the two traditions.
- **Toward the heart line** — apprehension and foreboding in love.

- **Multiple confused lines** — cowardice, pleasure-seeking, an unstable life.
- **Cross-bars, islands, dots** — defects of health (teeth, ears, joints, paralysis) or of character.
- **Ring of Saturn** (a ring at the base of the middle finger) — isolation, obstruction, an interrupted career; broadly inauspicious.
Western reading: Cheiro and Benham insist Saturn should be low, and that a high Saturn is a misfortune. Benham names the Saturnian the balance-wheel of the seven types and, less kindly, the wet blanket.
Read with care: The over-developed reading includes suicidal tendency and self-harm, and the star here is called a sign of terrible fatality. These are traditional claims, presented as tradition and not as prediction — no mark on a hand indicates catastrophe or self-harm. Note also two live disputes: Saturn displaced toward the Sun is favourable in Benham and adverse in Indian sources, and many modern popular sources ignore the classical rule that a high Saturn is bad.
