Where on the hand: Cutting across any line, or lying flat across any mount. Worry lines radiate from the Mount of Venus, cross the life line and run further into the palm. Trauma lines rise from the beginning of the life line toward the Saturn finger. Enemy lines run in from the percussion across the upper Mars mount.
What it looks like: Short horizontal strokes cutting straight across a line, or lying flat on a mount, with no vertical companions. Trauma lines are “almost always fragmented, blurry or faint.” Enemy lines vary in depth and length according to the strength of the enemy they represent.
Benham rates these the worst of the “net” family: crossbars are “worse than grilles because they completely block energy flow,” and they “emphasise the negative Mount characteristics and health defects.” Findyourfate: “an evil sign that nullifies the positive qualities of any mount.” Destiny Palmistry: “almost all horizontal markings on the life line, such as crossbars, stars, and slashes, are classed as harmful interference or obstacles.”
On each line
- **Life line** — interference and obstacles; worry lines crossing it originate on Venus. Enemy lines cutting it mean “betrayal by close associates.”
- **Head line** — headaches; bars crossing a sloping head line (wavy, straight or curved) give “danger of insanity.” A worry line reaching the head line means financial worry.
- **Heart line** — persistent heart irritation; a worry line reaching the heart line means emotional concern. Heart-line bars under the Sun, with a white dot, give literary achievement — a rare benefic combination.
- **Fate line** — career obstruction; a worry line reaching the fate line means career influence or a financial issue; with an island as well, possible bankruptcy. Enemy lines cutting the fate line endanger the career.
- **Sun line** — “artistic career hindered by envious rivals”; bars concentrated at the beginning mean “loss of fortune of the subject's parents during his youth.” Enemy lines cutting the Sun line affect financial matters.
- **Health / Liver line** — enemy lines cutting it mean health suffers.
- **Marriage line** — instability and deception.

- **Any mount** — crossbars block the mount's current entirely and emphasise its negative characteristics and health defects (Benham); Findyourfate calls them “an evil sign that nullifies the positive qualities of any mount.”
- **Venus** — the origin of worry lines, which fan out across the life line into the palm.
- **Upper Mars / percussion** — Saint-Germain's enemy lines: horizontal lines from the percussion represent enemies, their depth and length showing the enemy's strength.
- **Rahu (centre)** — Hindi popular usage calls the interference lines fanning across the palm's centre Rahu ki jāl, “Rahu's net”; crossbars here are also called Rahu rekhā.

- **Permanence** — because they are faint, “they may not be a permanent mark.”
Where crossbars are positive or mitigated
- **The neutralising rule** — a vertical line crossing a horizontal one is said to neutralise it, “indicating conquered trials.”

- **Faintness** — faint, fragmented trauma lines may not be permanent.
Read with care: “Bars crossing a sloping head line = danger of insanity” is Saint-Germain's severe register. The enemy-line scheme, which reads named adversaries off horizontal lines, is Victorian in temper; Destiny Palmistry's corrective — that these usually indicate ordinary domestic worry — is the more responsible modern reading.
