पर्वत · Parvat (mounts)
Also called: Parvat system · the nine mounts · Indian palm map
Where on the hand: The whole palm, divided into the nine planetary mounts plus the wrist bracelets and the two enclosed zones.
What it looks like: Fleshy pads beneath each finger and along the palm edges, with a sunken basin at the centre; the wrist carries horizontal bracelet lines below the palm's base.
Every symbol in the catalogue is located by this map, and its meaning changes with the zone it occupies. Rahu and Ketu are the specifically Indian additions with no Western equivalent, and several of the rarest signs — fish on Ketu, temple on the Moon — are located there.
Read with care: RECONCILED — this was a mirror-image error that would put every mark on the wrong side of the palm. LOWER MARS (Mars positive / active, निम्न मंगल) is the small area INSIDE the start of the life line, in the thumb web. UPPER MARS (Mars negative / passive, उच्च मंगल) is on the percussion, below Mercury and above Luna. The nine-fold map entry had these two swapped.
