Trident

Where on the hand: At the end of any major line — life, head, heart, fate or Sun; free-standing on the Jupiter, Saturn and Rahu mounts; and in the lower middle palm.

What it looks like: Three prongs of equal length radiating upward from a single point at the end of a line, the middle prong continuing the line's direction — like Shiva's trishul or a pitchfork. Distinguished from a fork (two prongs) and a tassel (many irregular strands).

The most favourable mark in both traditions. Findyourfate calls it “the most propitious marking… eclipses the star in beneficence.” Benham's mechanism: found at line endings, it “allows proper energy discharge” — the Current exits cleanly in three streams rather than being blocked. Astrogle: “good fortune in threes — happiness, health, and wealth.”

**End of the life line** — strong vitality, long life.
**End of the head line** — intellectual versatility.
**End of the fate line** — a career culminating in success.
**End of the Sun line** — creative success and recognition; strengthens the Apollo line and increases success prospects “when perfectly marked.”
**Heart line** — treated as a distinct auspicious formation in Indian palmistry.
**Compare the fork and tassel** — the same position with two prongs is a fork (division of energy) and with many irregular strands a tassel (dissipation); only three clean equal prongs give the trident.

**Saturn** — “simple, generous, philanthropist, moralist and connoisseur.”
**Rahu (centre), pointing upward** — “protection and unexpected help arriving when needed.”
**Ketu (base)** — falls under the Indian general rule for Ketu: triangle, square and trident are favourable there, island, cross and break unfavourable.
**Lower middle palm** — good luck.
**Indian classical (Dale)** — the trident indicates rising to great fame, “almost a prince or princess.”

**Its only caveat** — Palmistry-Astrology's Jupiter reading pairs the wealth with health issues.
**One of Benham's six strengthening signs** — with the star, triangle, circle, square and single vertical line.
**Against a fork or tassel** — a trident at a line's end converts the reading of that ending from division or dissipation into clean discharge.

Western reading: Benham lists the trident among the six signs that strengthen a mount and explains it mechanically as clean energy discharge at a line's ending. Findyourfate rates it above the star.
