Where on the hand: On a mount — grilles belong to mounts, not lines. Also found on the thumb's second knuckle, the index fingertip and the middle finger's third knuckle, and across the lower palm generally.
What it looks like: A patch of many fine lines crossing in two directions — several near-vertical and several near-horizontal or diagonal strokes overlapping into a small mesh, typically 5–15 mm across. Destiny Palmistry notes it may appear as blurred skin ridges rather than clean lines. A half-gridiron (Dale) is a partial mesh.
Dissipation of energy. Findyourfate: “energies of the hand dissipate or escape out.” Benham: it “diffuses and dissipates the Current” while over-charging the area, and deep red grilles are more dangerous than thin shallow ones. Astrogle: “interruptions in a person's advancement” — bewilderment, insecurity, continuous anxiety, exhaustion. It does not destroy the mount's qualities; it scatters them, so the person has the drive but not the concentration.
On each mount
- **Jupiter** — Saint-Germain: domineering spirit, exaggerated vanity, loose morals; Dale: “half gridiron — losses by powerful women.” Indian: “boastful, wretched, rogue and characterless.” Destiny Palmistry: blocked or excessive energies, frustrated authority, domineering, exaggeration, superstition. Chinese: strong power aspirations, and with a strong head line, analytical ability and eloquence (positive).
- **Saturn** — Saint-Germain: bad luck throughout life, especially in old age, often imprisonment. Indian: “poor, luckless and disappointed.” Destiny Palmistry: confinement, brooding, bad luck; issues with father or grandfather figures. Chinese: introspective, mentally strong, proud, but vulnerable to depression after setbacks.
- **Sun / Apollo** — Saint-Germain: excessive vanity, potential mental instability, prevents success. Indian: “boastful and untrustworthy.” Destiny Palmistry: excessive vanity, need for recognition, talent unused, damaged reputation. Chinese, contrarian: self-promotion, economic intuition, entrepreneurial drive — “many rich people have such a sign.”
- **Mercury** — Saint-Germain: violent death during fraudulent activity. Indian: “absurd, dishonest, unstable mind.” Destiny Palmistry: overwork, overwhelming communications, business failure risk, scheming; near the marriage lines, relationship or reproductive problems. Chinese: shrewd and quick-witted; near the marriage line, single status, “typically fades after marriage.”
- **Upper Mars** — Saint-Germain: hemorrhage and risk of violent death; with an exaggerated mount, murderous tendencies. Indian: sudden death.
- **Moon / Luna** — Saint-Germain: melancholia, nervous troubles, womb and bladder issues. Indian: constant mental disturbance and dissatisfaction. Destiny Palmistry: sadness, nervousness, discontent. Chinese: depressive paranoia, intensified if the head line descends to this mount.
- **Venus** — Saint-Germain: lascivious tendency, “worse if larger.” Indian: excessive sensuality. Destiny Palmistry: on the ball of the thumb, unhealthy desires. Chinese: vanity and romantic yearning; full coverage = overthinking and worry.
- **Rahu (centre)** — mental strain, indecision, confusion. Hindi popular writing calls the interference lines fanning across the centre Rahu ki jāl, “Rahu's net.”
- **Lower palm generally** — Indian: the lower middle palm is consistently negative, the upper middle palm bad fortune. Destiny Palmistry: arthritis, digestive, bladder and kidney concerns.

- **Not a line mark** — grilles belong to mounts; the literature gives no line-by-line table for them.
- **Near the marriage lines (Mercury mount)** — relationship or reproductive problems (Destiny Palmistry); Chinese: single status, fading after marriage.
- **Head line interaction (Moon mount)** — Chinese: a Moon grille's depressive reading intensifies if the head line descends to that mount.
- **Head line interaction (Jupiter mount)** — Chinese: with a strong head line, the Jupiter grille becomes analytical ability and eloquence.

- **Index fingertip (Chinese)** — favourable wealth prospects.
- **Mercury near the marriage line (Chinese)** — read merely as current single status, “typically fades after marriage” — a temporary rather than a permanent reading.
- **The Western verdict, for contrast** — Destiny Palmistry: “no positive interpretations; grille marks are mostly negative.” This is a real cross-tradition disagreement, not a nuance.
Western reading: Saint-Germain supplies the Victorian mount table with its criminological extremes. Benham supplies the mechanism — diffusion and dissipation of the Current with over-charging of the area — and the crucial corrective that most reported grilles are actually crossbars or ordinary fine skin lines.
Read with care: “Grille on Mercury = violent death during fraudulent activity” and “grille on Saturn = imprisonment” are Victorian criminological fantasy. Note also the grille/crossbar distinction (Benham): people who find a grille usually have crossbars or ordinary fine skin lines. And the Chinese tradition reads two of the Western grille's worst placements as outright favourable.
