Where on the hand: Ages are read where a set of drawn construction lines — running from the finger bases, the thumb tip and the peak of the Venus mount down to the first bracelet — cross the Life line.

What it looks like: A fan of straight construction lines ruled across the palm from fixed points on the fingers, thumb and Venus mount to fixed points on the rascette; their intersections with the Life line are the age marks.

The Indian counting systems divide the life into seven-year blocks (saptavarshiya, the most common), with three-year and six-year variants. Unlike the Western halving methods, the marks are fixed by ruled construction lines rather than by proportion along the line.
