समुद्रिक शास्त्र में अंगूठा · Samudrik shastra mein angutha
Also called: Thumb shapes · Angutha types
Where on the hand: On the thumb as a whole, judged by overall build — length, girth, where the bulk sits, and how firmly it is attached.
What it looks like: Compare the thumb's outline against the hand: long or short, thin or thick, wide or flat, bulky in the middle section or at the base.
Indian Samudrika preserves a long list of thumb types read directly for character and fortune, from the well-formed thumb of the accomplished person to the small, thick thumb read as coarse.
Read with care: Several of these types carry blunt character verdicts ("uncivilised", "potentially cruel"). They are traditional doctrine and should be presented as such. Spelling: समुद्रिक is not a word. The science is सामुद्रिक (vṛddhi of samudra); this reference spells it correctly elsewhere.
