Finger or thumbbothcommon
Also called: Lines on the first phalange of the thumb · Signs on the will section
Where on the hand: On the top (nail) phalange of the thumb, and on the thumbnail itself.
What it looks like: Fine lines running along the phalange's length (vertical) or across it (horizontal), plus crosses, stars, whorls and spots.
Marks here modify will and self-command. Vertical lines are read as flowing energy — honesty, drive and determination — while the reading of horizontal lines splits sharply between the Indian and Western traditions.
Western reading: Western practice reads horizontal bars on the will phalange as nervous tension and blocked energy.
Read with care: The horizontal-line reading is a direct East–West contradiction (wealth versus nervous exhaustion). Present both.
