बुद्धि · Buddhi
Also called: Logic phalange · Reason phalange · Mercury section of the thumb
Where on the hand: The middle section of the thumb, between the nail phalange and the ball of Venus.
What it looks like: Judge its length against the will phalange, and its profile — whether it narrows at the middle (waisted) or runs straight-sided and cylindrical.
The seat of LOGIC and REASON, governed by Mercury: reasoning, tact, diplomacy, judgement and deliberation. The ideal has it roughly equal in length to the will phalange, with a well-formed but not swollen Venus mount below.
Western reading: Cheiro's waisted-versus-straight distinction is the highest-yield reading on the whole thumb.
denotes the person who cares nothing for tact but who, on all occasions, will speak his mind plainly, and with brutal franknessCheiro, Palmistry for All (1916)
