Where on the hand: Directly beneath the gap between the ring finger and the little finger, at the top of the palm on the Apollo–Mercury border.

What it looks like: Two or more short clear vertical lines standing under the finger gap, sometimes crossed by a short horizontal stroke.

Chinese palmistry reads these as a talent for creation and research — writing, design, invention, scholarship, any work that makes something that did not exist before. The reading is of sustained original work rather than of flair.

Read with care: These lines occupy exactly the position Western palmistry assigns to the medical stigmata or Samaritan lines, which it reads as a healing vocation. The two traditions read the same marking differently, and a careful reading should say so rather than quietly merging them.
