Where on the hand: Applied along the Life line's whole course, from its origin in the thumb-web, round the Mount of Venus, to the wrist.

What it looks like: An imaginary straight line dropped from the base of the thumb to the outer corner where the little finger meets the palm; where it crosses the Life line marks age 40, and the remaining segments are repeatedly halved.

The most-used method in modern Western practice. It fixes one anchor point at 40 and derives the rest by successive halving, giving quarter-points at 20 and 60 and eighth-points at 10, 30, 50 and 70.
