Where on the hand: The horizontal creases encircling the wrist at the very base of the palm, where a bracelet or *kada* would rest — *mani* meaning jewel or bead and *bandh* meaning binding.

What it looks like: Usually two or three parallel creases, occasionally one, occasionally four. Number them from the palm downward, so the topmost, nearest the palm, is the first.

Each clear, unbroken bracelet is popularly said to represent about 25–30 years of life, so three clear bracelets are read as a long life. The clarity of the line matters more than the count.

Western reading: Western practice reads a chained or fragmented bracelet as constitutional weakness.
