Where on the hand: Palm surface, running as a line rather than standing as a closed figure.

What it looks like: A line whose two strands twist round one another along its length like a laid rope — repeatedly crossing and separating, so the line reads as braided rather than single.

The Garuḍa Purāṇa gives the chord mark as indicating the possession of cattle. Bṛhat Saṃhitā 68's 'triangular or rope-like twisted lines suggest richness' is the same family of observation.
