नन्द्यावर्त · Nandyāvarta
Also called: nandyavarta · nandavarta · nine-cornered swastika
Where on the hand: Palm surface — chiefly iconographic.
What it looks like: An elaborated nine-cornered swastika: a labyrinth-like figure in which each of the four arms is extended and bent multiple times, producing a complex spiral maze with fourfold rotational symmetry.
One of the Jain aṣṭamaṅgala; a maximally auspicious elaboration of the svastika — abundance, and the fourfold and ninefold cosmic order.
Read with care: Effectively iconographic only.
