Where on the hand: Terminology, not a palm position — the Sanskrit/Hindi words an Indian source uses to name any line, mount, mark or line-feature anywhere on the hand.

What it looks like: The words themselves: rekha for a line, chinha for a mark, dweep for an island, shakha for a branch, yava for a barleycorn-shaped island.

Indian sources describe every feature with this small fixed vocabulary. Knowing it lets a reader map a Hindi or Sanskrit description onto the Western terms for the same feature without loss.
