Also called: Radial and ulnar halves · The four quadrants · Conscious and subconscious zones
Where on the hand: Two orthogonal divisions of the palm: a vertical split into radial (thumb) and ulnar (percussion) halves at roughly x = 0.5, and a horizontal split into the distal (fingers and upper palm) and proximal (lower palm toward the wrist) zones. Combining them gives four quadrants.
What it looks like: No visible boundary — the divisions are conceptual. Read by comparing which half of the palm carries the deeper lines, the firmer mounts, and the more significant marks.
The radial half describes the active, conscious, outer-directed self; the ulnar half the passive, subconscious, inner-directed self. The movement from fingertip to wrist is a movement from abstract thought to physical grounding. Together they give a quick map of where a person's life energy is concentrated.
Western reading: The radial/ulnar territory scheme is a modern Western hand-mapping refinement, systematised in contemporary hand-reading practice.
