Where on the hand: In the ridges of Lower (Inner) Mars — the small mound inside the life line between the thumb and the head line's origin — running up from the thumb joint area toward the head line.

What it looks like: A narrow loop of skin ridges rising from the base of the thumb across the Lower Mars mound.

Read as physical and moral courage: the person meets a challenge head-on, acts before fear catches up, and holds their nerve in a crisis. Some sources restrict it to physical bravery; others extend it to the courage to hold an unpopular position.
