Where on the hand: Read along the whole course of any line, and in patches at particular dated points on it; judged over the whole palm as well as line by line.

What it looks like: The tint of the crease itself — rosy, red, white, yellow, dark or blue-tinged — seen against the surrounding palm skin.

Indian and Western sources broadly agree on the colour scale. Colour reports the condition and temperament behind a line rather than its subject, and a patch of unusual colour at one point on a line is read as an episode at that date.

Read with care: The colour readings include direct medical claims — anaemia, high blood pressure, jaundice, heart and blood disorders, "poison". These are traditional correspondences, not diagnostic findings, and must never be delivered as medical information.
