Where on the hand: Palm surface; also named among the sole-marks in the classical royal formula.

What it looks like: A closed ring with a small pendant drop hanging from its lower edge, or a spiral coil of one and a half turns.

A royalty mark. Bṛhat Saṃhitā 70 has 'a pendant' among the queen-making marks; the classical sole-formula gives aṅkuśa, kuṇḍala or cakra on the sole as marking a ruler of a great nation. Dale groups elephant, earring and wheel as making an emperor.
