Where on the hand: Palm surface.

What it looks like: A broad, closed, flattened oval or rounded rectangle with two or three short horizontal strokes inside it (ripples), sometimes with a stepped edge along one side (the ghāṭ). To draw it: a wide low ellipse, longer than it is tall, with two or three short parallel horizontal dashes floating inside the enclosure, and optionally three descending right-angled steps cut into one end.

Two readings sit side by side. The classical texts make the tank a mark of charity and righteousness. The '32 signs' list adds a distinctive and oddly specific caveat: despite flatulence, the person becomes prosperous.
