Where on the hand: Seen with the hand held up naturally; sight each finger against a faint vertical axis drawn through its own base to make the lean visible.
What it looks like: Distinguish a **curve** — a smooth bow, usually psychological and acquired — from a **twist or kink** — a torsion, read as more fated and structural, and treated more seriously in the Indian tradition.
Two governing rules cover every case. A finger leaning toward a neighbour draws strength from that neighbour, whose qualities colour and absorb it. Curling inward toward the palm accentuates the finger's own qualities; leaning outward or backward weakens and dissipates them.

- **Strongly bent or twisted and long** — Cheiro: natural liars, prone to fabrication.
- **Bent forward over the ring finger** — secretiveness within partnerships and marriage.
- **Sharp kink at the tip** — early family problems.
General
- **Tip-only bent (any finger)** — mental confusion affecting judgement and perception in that finger's area.
- **All fingers curving inward** — timid and insecure; or, on a harder hand, shrewd and selfish with a distorted view of reality.
Western reading: Cheiro's readings of the crooked index (crooked ambition) and crooked Saturn (crooked fate) are the classic pair.
