What it looks like: An eight-sided closed figure; in practice a rounded polygon with visible angular corners rather than a clean octagon. To draw it: a small closed loop whose outline breaks into eight short straight segments meeting at blunt angles.

Landed property — 'burdened with the possession of landed estates' (Dale, fig. 4); a land-owner. For women, the eight-cornered star is among the marks of prosperity and long life.

Read with care: Citation correction: ch. 70 has no eight-cornered star. It has the aṣṭāśra-yūpa, an eight-sided sacrificial POST — a different thing, conflated here with an octagon.
