What it looks like: A shallow rectangular box with a long horizontal pole-line running through or above it and projecting beyond both ends — sometimes with a curved canopy over the box.

Great wealth, vehicles and servants; luxury and material abundance; carried rather than walking — a life of ease. Bṛhat Saṃhitā 68 places the palanquin among the six kingship marks, with lotus, conch, umbrella, elephant and horse.
